Teacher Taster Days/Evenings

The day/evening includes lesson observations (day only), meeting current trainee teachers and receiving key information about the training year. The day/evening is designed to enable you to make an informed decision – is teaching for you? Which route suits you best?

Manchester Nexus (part of the Cranmer Education Trust) recommends our Teacher Taster Days to those people who are considering teaching Art and Design, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Dance, Design and Technology, Drama, English, Geography, Health and Social Care, History, Maths, Media Studies, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL), Music, Physical Education, Physical Education with Ebacc, Physics, Psychology, Religious Studies or Social Sciences at secondary level and hold a 1st, 2:1 or 2:2 degree in that subject. We do accept a 3rd in some instances, so do contact us if this applies to you.

Manchester Nexus also hold Taster Days for those considering teaching in a primary school setting.

Secondary Teacher Taster Days/Evenings

Our Secondary Teacher Taster Days/Evenings are available for anyone interested in teaching in any subject area listed below in the ‘gaining school experience’ section. All Secondary Taster Events are held at Blue Coat (lead school for Secondary training).

Our Primary Teacher Taster Days are available to anyone interested in teaching in the Primary phase. The Primary Teacher Taster Days take place across the schools in our partnership. All Primary Taster Days run from 8.45 – 2.30.

Who is this event for?
The events are designed for anyone who has a degree and is interested in teaching – particularly those who are considering starting their initial teacher training in September 2020. It offers a great opportunity to get all your questions about teaching and teacher training answered.

What to expect
If you attend the Train to Teach events you’ll be able to:

Discuss the different teacher training options available, to help you decide which would best suit you

Meet representatives from our own and other schools/universities that deliver teacher training in this area, and find out about their courses and entry requirements

Receive advice on submitting a successful UCAS application

Talk to practising teachers, including those who have changed career to teach, about what a career as a teacher is really like

Find out about bursaries, scholarships and funding available for teacher training
