– For primary, you will have also achieved a standard equivalent to a grade 4 GCSE in a science subject.
– For secondary, your degree should be 50% related to your chosen subject – please feel free to get in touch if in doubt.

What we look for in a candidate:

  • Is flexible, motivated and resilient.
  • Is a confident, competent and reflective subject specialist.
  • Has passion for their chosen subject/s.
  • Maintains high standards in ethics and behaviour both within and outside school.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and young people, treating them with dignity, with the ability to build relationships.
  • Understands their professional responsibilities and acts with integrity.
  • Be tolerant and respectful of others’ actions and beliefs.

School experience

It is not a requirement that you have school experience. Candidates have reported that they found it beneficial as it can have a positive impact on your confidence and your understanding of the modern classroom. However, please do not see lack of experience as a reason to not apply with us.

Application tips

  • Proof read your application – pay particular attention to punctuation and grammar, it’s vital that you show you can do this as a trainee teacher.
  • Add in all your qualifications on the application – even if they aren’t an entry requirement.
  • Make sure your personal statement reflects your skills and experience fully in relation to any work, but also anything related to your knowledge and passion for your subject.
  • If you are working towards any qualifications, refer to this in the relevant sections but also in your personal statement.
  • Do your research about the courses available and how your qualifications and experience fit the subjects available before you apply.
  • Include any areas of study you think are relevant to the (secondary/ primary) curriculum that you have covered in your subject qualifications, just to give an idea of the depth of your subject knowledge in your personal statement.
  • Add in the full history of your work experience and give accurate dates including reasons for any gaps in employment.
  • Your personal statement is your chance to explain why you would make a good teacher in your subject and why you would like to be considered for a place so take some time to complete it.
