Our training is ambitious and research informed. It recognises the importance of knowledge and practice, preparing trainees to work with balance on their journey from novice to expert as they navigate the demands of this great profession.

The school-based programme enables trainees to spend the majority of time in a school setting. The curriculum is designed and driven by Nexus leaders and delivered in partnership with practising school-based experts. The integration of taught theory and developing practice is supported by dedicated mentoring in the school setting.

The Nexus Five Strands

IMMERSIVE SCHOOL BASED TRAINING

School-led training means engaging in immersive training, gaining real classroom experience whilst learning best practice and most effective methods from experienced teachers through two contrasting placements.

PROFESSIONAL STUDIES TRAINING

As part of the Nexus Programme, you will receive bespoke training by professionals in order to prepare you for the classroom. The sessions will also provide a chance to network with other trainees.

SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE FOR TEACHING PROGRAMME

You will attend tailored sessions with a local subject lead. This will enhance your subject knowledge to build your when confidence delivering lessons in the classroom.

POST GRADUATE CERIFICATE IN EDUCATION

A tutor from Sheffield Hallam, will provide training based in the local area. You will cover two modules, each is assessed through a written assignment. On completion, you’ll receive PGCE with 60 masters level credits.

ENHANCEMENTS & ENRICHMENT

We provide the chance for you to experience additional, unique opportunities, relevant to your course or subject. Popular examples include a post 16 placement or spending time with a special educational needs department.

THEORY & PRACTICE

Our theory-based training blended with your teaching practice will support you to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

STRONG RELATIONSHIPS

During two placements at different schools, you will develop strong relationships with your pupils and mentors. This will be the kay to your individual progress as a trainee teacher and your pupils’ outcomes.

EXPERIENCED MENTORS & TRAINERS

You will have a dedicated mentor in each school who will support and guide you according to your individual needs. You will be trained by experienced school leaders, receiving support and guidance on a daily basis.
